Does a Career Working with Middle and High School Students Appeal to You?

Gulf Coast State College's Social Studies Education Option, Liberal Arts AA degree is a perfect fit for individuals interested in working with middle and high school students. Completion of your AA degree will allow you to transfer to a four-year institution to earn your bachelor's degree, leading to Florida certification to teach grades six through twelve.

Many career options are available to you including middle school or high school teacher, admissions director, librarian, dean of students and education consultant.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), the national median pay for a middle school teacher in 2020 was $60,810.00 per year (bachelor’s degree education level). The OOH lists the national median pay in 2020 for a high school teacher with a bachelor’s degree was $62,870.00 annually.  Jobs for both middle and high school teachers are expected to increase by 4% from 2019 to 2029.
