Supporting Our Heroes

Expenses of a college education go beyond tuition – textbooks, fees and more. There are needs and challenges that can affect any student’s ability to successfully complete their educational goals.

Barriers for veteran students can range from reacquainting themselves with academic work, difficulty connecting with classmates and faculty, change from a military environment to a civilian environment, family responsibilities and service-connected disabilities. With all that these students and their families have sacrificed for us, we wanted to do more than just honor them – we felt a duty, an obligation, to support them.

Request Assistance

Thanks A Million funds are available to assist currently enrolled students who are active-duty military, veterans, spouses, or dependents. After other sources of financial assistance have been explored, these funds can assist with tuition, book, and supply costs as well as unexpected emergency expenses. In order to explore eligibility for other sources of aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • If tuition, book, and supply costs are not covered by other sources, complete the application below
  • If funds are needed for emergency expenses and not eligible for other assistance, complete the application below

Overcoming Any Challenge Or Adversity

The Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability (2017) published a study of veterans enrolled in community colleges that found: "Many struggled to successfully juggle the demands and expectations of marriage and parenthood, employment, and education. Despite receiving assistance from the Post-9/11 GI Bill . . ., participants struggled to pay bills, including childcare, as well as their everyday expenses. Throughout the semester, participants worked full-time, part-time, and/or odd jobs to 'get by.' For some, competing demands necessitated dropping or discontinuing classes."

The Thanks a Million Campaign's guiding principle is flexibility to defray a variety of expenses, from the everyday to the course related.

Please help the College and Foundation provide an exceptional education for our heroes so that they may realize the American Dream so many of them fought to preserve.
