Art in the Amelia Center

Gulf Coast State College Amelia Center Gallery is located in the Amelia Tapper Center, room 112. The gallery is open during the Fall and Spring semesters, and closed during the summer. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Friday 10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. All shows are free and open to the public.

In conjunction with exhibitions the gallery hosts a number of artist talks, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops throughout the year. These events are an integral part of the educational mission of the gallery, which offer the students and the community a chance to interact with the artists, explore the creative process, and learn new, innovative approaches to making art. All events are free and open to the public.


 

September 4 – October 2

Migration of Ashes: Landscapes Without End

Drawing and sculpture by Tyler Nicholson examine displacement and memory through cycles of conflict, upheaval, and forced migration.
Opening Reception: September 4, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Amelia Center Gallery. The artist will give a gallery talk during the reception.


 

October 15, 2:30 p. m.

Projecting Workshop

Discover projection mapping with Jamie Zimchek. This workshop features a MadMapper demo and hands-on activities linked to the Amelia Center Gallery exhibit and the Public Eye Soar projection festival. Amelia Tapper Center, AC128.


 

October 16 – November 7

This is Not a Pipe

Jamie Zimchek explores the meaning of home through sculpture, installations, and new media.
Opening Reception: October 16, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Amelia Center Gallery, AC112. The artist will give a gallery talk during the reception.


 

November 13 – December 4

Nineteenth Annual Cup Show – Form and Function

A survey of the wide variety of approaches to contemporary ceramics through the lens of the most intimate and accessible vessel — the cup. Juried by Bryan Wilkerson.
Opening Reception: November 13, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Amelia Center Gallery, AC112.
