Gulf Coast State College's Division of Student Affairs strives to achieve educational excellence for students by providing a supportive environment that ensures diverse opportunities for students to create their futures. We place the learner first in creative problem-solving that ensures a trusting, student-focused learning environment.
Departments within Student Affairs include Advising, Athletics, Counseling, Student Accessibility Resources, Enrollment Services, Military and Veteran Services, New Student Orientation, Student Government, Testing, TRiO, and the Welcome Center.
Advising, located on the second floor of the Student Union East, provides initial academic advising for all new students. Advisors assist students with their transition to postsecondary education and any concerns that students may have in navigating their academic careers.
Gulf Coast State College's Commodore Athletics is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and participates in five intercollegiate sports: Baseball, Men's Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, and Women's Basketball. A member of the Panhandle Conference, the sports teams participate at a high level and have claimed four national titles.
Meeting the needs of our students, the Counseling Center provides crisis intervention and short-term academic and personal counseling. Counselor offices are located on the first floor of the Student Union East. Walk-ins are welcome.
The Office of Student Accessibility Resources establishes reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and ensures the fair application of reasonable accommodations inside and outside the classroom. Offices are located on the first floor of the Student Union East.
Responsible for student processes from application to the college through graduation, the Office of Enrollment Services houses all student records in a confidential and secure manner. Located in the Enrollment Services Building, the office processes college applications, academic transcripts, enrollment verification, graduation applications, student academic program changes, student-initiated withdrawals among other services.
Providing assistance for active duty and veteran military service members, the Military and Veteran Services department staffs offices in the Student Union East and at the Education Center at Tyndall Air Force Base. Both sites provide assistance with GI Bill, registration, advising, and social activities for our active duty and veteran military students.
All first-time-in-college students are required to attend New Student Orientation prior to registering for classes. On-site orientations are available as well as online orientations.
Gulf Coast' s Student Government Association provides all students with the opportunity to enhance skills related to leadership development through community service, civic engagement, club membership, and social activities. Offices are located on the first floor of the Student Union East.
Testing services include placement testing, Online Learning testing, CLEP testing, Pearson VUE certification testing, and specialized testing environments for students with disabilities. Located on the third floor of the Student Union West, the Testing Office also provides proctoring services for non-Gulf Coast students.
The Federal TRiO Program provides qualified students with one-to-one tutorial services, academic counseling, student success workshops, and university transfer assistance. The aim of the TRiO Program is to ensure program completion and aid in university transfer for its students through mentoring and individualized support. The TRiO Program is housed on the first floor of the Student Union West.
The college's Welcome Center, located on the first floor of the Advanced Technology Center, is the first stop for anyone coming to campus. Providing campus tours, campus information, admissions information, and application assistance, the center also houses the college's recruitment offices
